“Vegetables help you grow!”
25 November 2011
“La petite maison”, a charity in Quebec that seeks to combat poor lifestyle habits, proposes weekly cookery workshops offering a chance for underprivileged youngsters aged 6 to 12 years old to discover vegetables and nutrition.
Their “Des légumes pour bien grandir!” project (Vegetables help you grow!) is designed to make children aware of good eating habits and the importance of a balanced diet.
Consequently, since January 2011, a cookery workshop lasting an hour and a half has been held each week, focusing on various themes such as mousses (fruit and vegetables), cabbage, apples, stewed fruit and vegetables and tomatoes. By mid-July, 50 children had already attended the workshops.
As children tend to learn by copying what their parents do, it was important to offer these workshops for parents, to ensure that they are made fully aware of good eating habits. These “parents and children’s” sessions have enjoyed great success. The parents have been very active and committed, and their children clearly proud to be taking part along with their parents.
The Louis Bonduelle Foundation subsidised this project in the scope of its call for projects in the Summer of 2010.
