Conference and exhibition in the European Parliament

Eat Well to Live Well?

Under the patronage of Ms. Sophie AUCONIE, Member of the European Parliament, the Louis Bonduelle Foundation plan in the European Parliament in Brussels the 22nd of november 2011, a conference :

Eat Well to Live Well?
The Impact of New Lifestyles and Eating Habits on Citizens’ Health

The way we live changes, and the way we eat too: stress, lack of sleep, lunch in 20 minutes, diner while watching TV, etc. The acceleration of time makes the convivial and social aspects related to food decline, and unhealthy eating habits and practices arise (“junk food”). In the meantime, diet-related diseases such as obesity have never been as highly developed in our societies as today.

What are the links between new lifestyles/eating habits and human health? Are the next generations of citizens condemned to widely suffer from diet-related diseases? Can Europe draw its own path to face the major challenge of combining new lifestyles with healthy food behaviours? To which extent should the measures implemented be global/trans-generational, or group-specific (the particular cases of children and the elderly will be addressed)?

The following keynote speakers will address these major issues in the panel discussion:

  • Ms. Sophie AUCONIE, Member of the European Parliament (ENVI Committee), Host of the event and chairperson of the panel;
  • Mr. Marc TARABELLA, Member of the European Parliament (AGRI Committee), Rapporteur for the opinion of the AGRI Committee on Food Information to consumers;
  • Dr. Antonyia PARVANOVA, Member of the European Parliament (ENVI and IMCO Committee);
  • Mr. Philippe Roux, Deputy Head of Unit C.4 Health determinants - Directorate General for Health and Consumer Policy (DG SANCO), European Commission
  •
  • Ms. Anne-Sophie PARENT, Secretary General of the AGE Platform Europe, European network of around 150 organisations of and for people aged 50+ representing directly over 28 million older people in Europe;
  • Dr. Stefaan DE HENAUW, Professor at the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ghent University (Belgium), Chairman of the Belgian Nutrition Society, and member of the team leading the FP 6 project IDEFICS on the Identification and prevention of Dietary- and lifestyle-induced health EFfects In Children and infantS;
  • Mr. Jean-Bernard BONDUELLE, Louis Bonduelle Foundation.
