Varieties and seasons
It is a herbaceous annual plant, with trifoliolate leaves, which grows in temperate/hot climates, in varying sizes. Climbing varieties, with twining stems, can grow several metres high. The flowers, which grow in bunches, are characterised by papilionaceae, with a petal transformed into a “standard”. The fruit are pods opening into two valves. Flageolet beans in tins and frozen are always prepared using fresh, green seeds of certain varieties of beans, which are harvested in September and October.
Production
The biggest producers of flageolet beans are Brasil, India and China.
