Impact of different sources of protein in coronary heart disease

13 October 2011

The relationship between the consumption of meat protein and increased coronary heart disease seems to be confirmed. Indeed, recent data have shown the link between red meat intake and weight gain - a daily intake of 125 g of meat seems to induce a weight gain of 1kg in 5-6 years!

The study highlights that a diet low in red meat but rich in vegetable protein, low fat dairy products, poultry or fish, is associated with a lower risk of CHD.

The addition of soy in the diet does not bring significant change except a slight decrease in LDL cholesterol.
