Vegetable garden: growing melon

Seedlings start around March up to mid-May. Sowing takes place indoors. When there are 4-5 leaves on the plants, make sure to cut the head in order to encourage new growth, and forces the new shoots to develop. Harvesting starts from July up to end of October.

As with many vegetables, melon can be affected by diseases such as anthracnose (a fungus that will alter the leaves, brown spots will form at leaf level) or mildew (a fungus that will grow with the high humidity of the environment and will cause the appearance of white spots on the leaves). Subsequently these diseases cause a slower growth of the plant, which can even lead to the death of the latter. Melon is a vegetable but also a fruit.
