Boiled yam

As source of complex sugars and fibre, yam makes a great side dish with meat or fish. Round it off with a green salad or raw veggies, for example.

Ingredients (serves 4):

  • 1 yam
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • salt


  • Wash and peel the yam.
  • Cut it in pieces and splash with lemon juice to prevent it from browning.
  • Cook in a pot with slightly salted water for 20 min.
  • Drain and server hot.

Eat it like a potato: yams are yummy simply cooked and served with a dab of batter.
